Understanding Your Score
Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) diagnosis:
- Headache must be present.
- Total Lake Louise Score must be 3 or higher.
- Do not ascend further until symptoms completely resolve.
Management of mild AMS:
- Stop ascent and rest at the current altitude.
- Use ibuprofen or paracetamol for headache relief.
- Maintain good hydration.
- Descend if symptoms worsen or do not improve within 24 hours.
- Acetazolamide may be used to speed acclimatisation (when appropriate).
