Svalbard is a remote Arctic archipelago roughly halfway between mainland Norway and the North Pole, known for glaciers, polar bears, and the northernmost permanently inhabited settlement in the world, Longyearbyen. Svalbard is part of the Kingdom of Norway, recognized under the 1920 Svalbard Treaty, which grants Norway full sovereignty while giving all treaty signatory nations equal rights to live, work, and travel there. As a result, Svalbard has the most unusual entry status of any territory on Earth: it is entirely visa-free for every nationality, with no immigration checks once you arrive.
